Crafts, Nerds and Smiles

So my sister and sister-in-law have both posted at least twice since I blogged last, I thought it was probably time to post again so here are some recent happenings.

Before we left Wyoming, a dear friend was moving and getting rid of some stuff.  Brandon's Mom went over and came back with two of these shelves.

I decided that as much as I liked the wood, I wanted to paint them.  So I did.  I also added some fairies from my room growing up.

After I got them up I decided that the one looked kind of empty so I talked to Brandon and he suggested doing her name.  So I got some letters and with the help of Brandon, his Mom and his sister Camille, this is what the shelves look like now.

When we moved back Brandon's parents let us take Brandon's old dresser from childhood.  It looked like this:

I decided, much to Brandon's dismay, that I wanted to paint it.  So I did some research on that wonderful place called Pinterest and found this.

Spray paint over lace.

So we decided to give it a try.  We painted the base color blue. (We had blue paint left over from painting our wall last year.) Then we spray painted purple to match the shelves.  It's not as perfect as the picture above but we were both really happy with it.  Now the dresser looks like this.

I also made a shadow box with my Grandpa Dunn's old glasses.  I embroidered the Learning thing in Young Women's... I think.  I put them together because my Grandpa was a teacher and loved learning.  It's also in Clara's room.

Not only are we crafty sometimes, we're also kind of nerds. This weekend we decided to make Lembas bread from Lord of the Rings and Butterbeer from Harry Potter.
Brandon eating his Lembas bread.  No, one bite did not fill us up for hours and it was actually kind of bland.  We did have to improvise a little bit though with the recipe because we didn't have kumquats or rose water.

Just enjoying some butterbeer.  It was pretty good although incredibly sweet.  We were supposed to used unsweetened condensed milk but we only had sweetened so it was a little much.

And finally look who's smiling!

(I promise the next blog post will have more pictures of this adorable little girl!)
